    โ€˜โ€™Kalaripayattu is one of the most ancient forms of Indian martial arts that is still in existence. In fact, a lot of other forms like Kung Fu evolved from kalarippayattu. Bodhidharma, a monk, is believed to have carried this art to China, from which the other martial arts adapted it.

    โ€œKalari chikitsa is fundamentally about identifying the vital points (marmam) under stress, repairing and rejuvenating it while eliminating any imbalance of the tridoshas โ€“ vata (wind), kabha (phlem) and pitta (fire). It is used to treat a wide range of ailments. Predominantly neuromuscular problems like arthritis (64 types), migraine (6 types), back pain, sciatica, hip pain, spondylosis, disc prolapse, joint problems affecting the knees, elbow and shoulders, bone fractures, etc.โ€

    • Pizhichil involves gentle massage with warm medicated oil that is poured all over the body. With the person made to lie on a wooden plank, the massage brings about relaxation, while rejuvenating the muscles at the same time. Pizhichil is the best treatment for curing arthritis, blood pressure, rheumatic diseases etc.
    • Virechana applies oleation(oil massage), fomentation(poultices of herbs and oils), emesis(vomiting) and medicated steam bath to remove excess Pitha. The treatment helps to cure inflammation, headaches, jaundice and certain gynaecological disorders.
    • Udhwarthanam or deep, full-body massage using herbal powders help to stimulate and break down fat-storage beneath the skin. It is mainly used for weight loss and treating obesity.
